One migrant dies, five seriously ill after sea crossing

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain - One would-be immigrant has died while trying to cross from Africa to Spain, while five others were in a serious condition after their journey, officials said Monday.
The boat carrying 68 people arrived on the Canary Island of El Hierro late Sunday. Five of the migrants were hospitalized suffering from exhaustion.
The Canary Islands are Spanish territories in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Morocco. They are the European Union's southernmost point.
No further details were immediately available.
About 60 Africans have died so far this year while trying to reach Spain, according to official figures. (dpa)
