Order of Rs 42.8-billion to be acquired by Bharat Electronics
It has appeared that an order worth Rs 42.79 billion from the Indian Air Force would soon be in hands of State-run defence equipment maker Bharat Electronics, under which it will be expected to supply 750 Akash surface-to-air missiles.
While referring to the Indian Air Force, Federal Defence Minister AK Antony said that after testing it in two squadrons last year, they have placed orders for six more squadrons.
He continued further that it will be in stages that the missile systems would be delivered.
This order has come as an addition to last year's order for 250 missiles, which was on a pilot basis. The order initially was estimated at Rs 12.21 billion.
After the Indian defense equipment maker won the order, its shares hiked by 7.1 percent in Mumbai trading.
A hike in the shares was seen by 3.8 percent to 2,004 rupees as of 12:45 p. m. local time. Apart from this, a rise by 2.1pct was seen in the benchmark Bombay Stock Exchange Sensitive Index.
