Orissa Assembly Speaker resigns over sexual harassment charge

Orissa Assembly Speaker Maheswar Mohanty resigned Bhubaneswar, Mar 31 : Orissa Assembly Speaker Maheswar Mohanty resigned on Monday after a criminal case was registered against him on charges of sexually harassing Lady Marshal Gayatri Panda.

The criminal case against Mohanty was registered on Saturday after Panda lodged a police complaint.

Panda had claimed that she had faced Mohanty made sexual advances on her who even indulged in vulgar gestures.

Mohanty vehemently denied the allegations.

The criminal case against Mohanty was registered under Sections 506 (threatening), 507 (anonymous communication), 509 (obscene and objectionable gesture or act intended to outrage the modesty of a woman) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC. (ANI)
