Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz SharifIslamabad, Dec. 19 : Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan presents a picture of a failed and ungovernable state.

"Pakistan presents the picture of a failed and ungovernable state," the Daily Times quoted Sharif, as saying.

Sharif vehemently criticised the military rule of General Parvez Musharraf, and said that the General's regime made the country ungovernable.

However, he supported the present Government in Pakistan saying: "The present government is not responsible for the deteriorating situation."

Talking about a roadmap to bring the nation back on track he said: "It is necessary to draw a roadmap to determine the country's direction to make it a successful state," adding "the problem can be overcome if the government abides by the Murree Declaration in letter and spirit."

Citing the confrontation in the country between the judiciary and the parliament, Sharif demanded independence of judiciary and the repeal of the 17th Constitutional Amendment.

"We want to repeal the 17th Amendment, the independence of judiciary and the rule of law in the country,"the Daily Times quoted him as saying.

Commenting on the Mumbai terror attacks, Sharif criticised India and asked it to share intelligence with Pakistan, instead of approaching the UN Security Council. (ANI)
