Chennai, June 7 : Parents and students here have complained about facing a lot of hardships and competition in getting admission to colleges of their choice.

Most parents are fretting over the high capitation fees demanded by privately managed professional colleges.

Both parents and their wards are also peeved with the attitude of the self-financing professional colleges.

The lack of infrastructure and other facilities in several colleges has worried most of the parents.

"They should not increase the fees and all. Also, the government must have a fee restriction. It should not cross that one. Secondly, if there is no infrastructure then such colleges should be closed," complained A Mohammed Salahuddin, parent of an aspirant engineering student, Chennai.

The biggest challenge that awaits students is to seek admission to professional courses and the universities of their choice.

Even after faring well and scoring commendable marks, most of these students don''t get admission into their preferred course and colleges since the one paying donation and capitation fees manages it.

"If you are taking medical student or engineering student, they should have proper category like 70 percent is the limit then you can go the engineering college," said S Mohammed Sameerudin, a student of an engineering college.

Recently, the regional and national media had exposed the exploitation by Chennai-based private professional colleges by demanding donations without any receipt in the name of capitation fees.

The scandal of high capitation fee and seat auctioning in medical colleges in Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Karnataka states continues to haunt many parents and students alike. (ANI)
