SL Annihilates Zimbabwe By 130 RunsSensational Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis has become the fastest bowler to take 50 wickets in one-day internationals as Sri Lanka crushed Zimbabwe by 130 runs in their first match of the tri-series tournament in Dhaka.

Set to score a reserved 211 for victory, Zimbabwe were all out for 80 in 28.2 overs with just Stuart Matsikenyeri reaching double figures.

Mendis took three for 15, finishing his 50-wicket haul in his 19th ODI and enhancing the record of India's Ajit Agarkar, who took 23 matches to reach the landmark.

Mendis needs to stand test of time: Buchanan

Ajantha Mendis seems to have built a really good impression on the Australian former coach John Buchanan, who feels that the player should be judged on long term basis.

On Tuesday, Buchanan reported in Mumbai, “Mendis reminds me a bit of Johnny Gleeson, though he releases the ball much quicker, is taller and stronger. He also has good change of pace.”

Buchanan is the chief coach of Kolkata Riders, an IPL franchise, and the Australian is in the country to carry out a two-day selection trial at Goregaon Sports Club for the same.

Mendis Set For Selection

Mendis set for selection The cricket selection committee of Sri Lanka will meet on Monday. It will be headed by former fast bowler Ashantha de Mel and decide the team players for first test match against India.

The agenda of meeting is to decide the 6th batsman and a new ball partner as main bowlers like Lasith Malinga and Farveez Maharoof are unable to play due to injuries. The test match is starting on July 23.

De Mel said that he is happy with the performance of the openers who played in the last Test series against West Indies. Malintha Warnapura and Michael Van Dort will be selected for the test series.
