Karachi, Jan 7 : U. S. Ambassador to Pakistan Anne W. Patterson has said that delay in issuing of visas to American inspectors, who will train Pakistani employees working at Port Qasim, has brought the Obama administration’s container pre-screening expansion plans to a standstill.
US favoured Musharraf’s ‘safe exit’: Patterson

In an interview with an American news paper, US Ambassador to Pakistan Anne Patterson said Washington wanted a ‘dignified’ retirement for Musharraf.
She said the US wanted a peaceful transition to democracy in Pakistan at that time.
Commenting on the ever increasing demand for Musharraf’s trial under the Article Six of the Constitution by certain quarters in Pakistan, Patterson said it was an ‘internal matter’ of that country.
Pak summons US ambassador over killings in Wana raid

Islamabad, Sept 4: Following the raid on Wednesday night by suspected US commandoes killing at least 20 civilians, the Pakistan Foreign Office summoned US Ambassador Anne W Patterson and protested against the raid.
The raid was carried out by suspected US troops in a village near Angoor Adda in Wana district of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP).
Reacting to the raid, Foreign Office spokesman Muhammad Sadiq said that such attacks "may fuel the fire of hatred and violence that we are trying to extinguish”, reported the Daily Times. (ANI)

Rawalpindi, Aug 11 : US Ambassador to Pakistan Anne Patterson called on President Pervez Musharraf here, despite mounting calls that he step aside to spare Pakistan the trauma of a bitter impeachment process.
The meeting between Peterson and Musharraf is being given much importance by political circles in the wake of the ruling alliance’s move to impeach the President.
It may be recalled that the US Ambassador had recently returned from Washington after some crucial consultations and briefings.

"US Ambassador to Pakistan Anne W. Patterson telephoned Nawaz to express her grave concern over his remarks made in a television interview," the Embassy said in a statement.
Nawaz reportedly told an Arab TV channel that the US is among other foreign countries behind the blasts.

US Ambassador to Pakistan Anne W Patterson has urged the Pakistan Government to lift curbs on the media and release all political and civil society detainees.
"We urge the Government of Pakistan to lift all remaining restrictions, especially those on the media and release all detainees," she said while addressing the National Media Conference organised by the South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA).
Patterson praised the Pakistani media for being vibrant.

Islamabad, Nov 14: The proclamation of an emergency in Pakistan by President General Pervez Musharraf is a serious setback to democracy in that country, US Ambassador Anne W Patterson has said.
“Pakistan’s move toward democracy has been seriously set back by the events of November 3, ” Patterson said while speaking on the US-Pakistan relationship at National Defence University here.
She said that Washington has urged the Musharraf Government not to throw away in weeks what it took years to achieve.
US envoy Anne W Patterson asks Pakistan Chief Election Commissioner to announce poll dates soon

"I urged the CEC to announce the elections schedule as soon as possible to reassure the people of Pakistan and the international community that the government remains committed to holding the elections on schedule," she said after meeting the CEC.
Patterson later told CBSW News that the CEC "thinks they (elections) will go ahead on time, he is ready to proceed."
US wants civilian rule in Pakistan: Anne W Patterson

She said this during a meeting between President General Pervez Musharraf and envoys.
"The US does not support the emergency and wants Musharraf to hold the general elections by mid-January 2008," sources said.
Earlier, while briefing foreign envoys, Musharraf refused to specify a timeframe for the general elections and for doffing his uniform.
He said these were important decisions, and he would decide after consulting experts, the Daily Times quoted sources, as saying.
