Rice: Poland and Europe must deal with Russia

Warsaw - Poland as well as the rest of Europe and the United States have to deal with an increasingly aggressive Russia, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said in statements published Thursday in the country's biggest daily.

Poland was a US key ally in the region, Rice said in a statement in the Wyborcza newspaper, and said Russian leaders were currently making bad choices.

Referring to Russia's recent conflict with Georgia, Rice said the Kremlin should respect the sovereignty of its smaller neighbors. Russia's actions, she said, are pushing it toward the path of isolation.

Washington, Sep 15 : American public sentiment is moving in Republicans’ direction despite Democrats having the money and reach to add substantially to their House majority in November, according to a poll that suggests the GOP could limit those gains.

An Associated Press-GfK poll conducted between September 5-10 found Republicans trailing Democrats by just five percentage points when likely voters were asked which party they want to control Congress next year.

That is a substantial improvement from the double-digit disadvantage Republicans were suffering in most public polls so far this year, although the boost could prove fleeting, FOX News reported.

Condoleezza Rice hosts Iftar for Muslim diplomats

Members of the diplomatic community, including Pakistan''s ambassador Husain Haqqani, Washington-based Pakistani journalists, members of the US Congress, representatives of American civil society, religious and academic communities attended the reception at the State Department, reported The News.

Speaking on the occasion, Rice said that people of all faiths appreciate Ramazan’s spirit.

Rice wants more blacks in US State Department

Lamenting about the lack of blacks in the US administration, like herself, she wished to see more blacks in the State Department.

Rice is the second black person to become secretary of state after Colin Powell.
