London - US presidential contender Barack Obama was holding talks with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Middle East Quartet representative Tony Blair in London Saturday on the final stage of a trip aimed at enhancing his foreign affairs image.

The Democratic Party Illinois Senator Friday had talks with French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris. The tour had earlier included visits to Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel and Berlin.

London, July 26 : British Prime Minister Gordon Brown was told that he has only 42 days to turn around Labour’s fortunes or face an autumn leadership crisis.

The warning came after the party slumped to one of its all-time lows with a crushing by-election defeat.

Labour plunged into turmoil when it was trounced in Thursday’s Glasgow East by-election.

The party’s 13,507 majority was annihilated by the Scottish National Party, which took the seat with a 22 per cent swing.

According to The Sun, Labour sensationally lost one of the party’s safest seats to the Scottish National Party (SNP) on Friday morning.

The SNP won by 365 votes after a nail-biting recount, a swing of 23 per cent from Labour which previously had a massive 13,500 majority.

London, July 24: British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has decided to amend a legislation that insists that prospective foreign spouses have to take an English proficiency test before marrying a British citizen.

According to The Sun, the government has said that those intending to marry British citizens and settle here will be required to take language lessons only after they arrive.

The country’s Immigration Minister Liam Byrne said it would be impractical to demand tests beforehand because English lessons are not widely available overseas.

London, July 21 : British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is studying a new scheme to encourage people to use environmentally friendly vehicles rather than those propelled by petrol or diesel — giving away electric cars for free or at a heavily subsidised price.

Senior Downing Street sources say that Israeli businessman Shai Agassi, 38, has proposed the plan to the PM.

If cleared, the scheme would require people to sign an agreement with a company to run the hybrid cars, and buy electricity to charge their batteries.
