Gurinder Chaddha who gave viewers' the wondrous 'Bend It Like Beckham' appears to have got it all wrong this time. Well at least where sense of humor is concerned. Designed as a black comedy, her newest release 'It's Wonderful Afterlife' fails to woo audience.

The story of the film revolves around the widowed Mrs. Sethi (Shabana Azmi) who is upset that her obese daughter Roopi (Glody Notay) will never find a life partner.

Panaji, Nov 24 : She has popularised India in the consciousness of western audiences through films like "Bend It Like Beckham" and "Bride And Prejudice" but Gurinder Chadha ironically admits she cannot speak Hindi.

Chadha, who is in Goa to attend a retrospective of her films at the 40th edition of the International Film festival of India (IFFI), said that she could speak Punjabi, but had not mastered Hindi yet.

"That's a candid confession," the British-Indian director said.

Chadha further said she was working on yet another film set in the Asian-dominated Southall in London.

Frank Capra’s It’s A Wonderful Life is one of my favourite films. It A Wonderful Afterlife takes me back to the Bend It Like Beckham territory . Sanjeev Bhaskar and Shaheen Khan are there. I’ve actors from Beckham back in my new film. It’s that kind of film. It takes me back to my Punjabi roots, very West London. What would be an interesting challenge for my leading lady Shabana Azmi is that for the first time she plays British Indian. We haven’t seen her do a British film. Shabana will be playing an Indian woman who has been living in Britain for the last 45 years. She’s never done that before.

London, Apr 1 : Film director Gurinder Chadha and Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling will attend the G20 summit dinner in London, an event for the spouses of those attending, including Michelle Obama.

Michelle will also be seated with Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes at the dinner in 10 Downing Street.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell will be among celebrities present from the worlds of fashion, sport, business and the arts, reports The Telegraph.

British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver will be preparing the menu, which will feature seasonal produce including Welsh lamb, Jersey Royal new potatoes and asparagus.
