Springfield (Illinois, US)/Washington, Dec. 11 : Jesse Jackson Junior, the son of the well known civil rights campaigner, Jesse Jackson Senior, has denied that he attempted to buy President-elect Barack Obama's vacated Senate seat from Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.

Chicago - Jesse Jackson, the stalwart civil rights leader who had a spat with Barack Obama during the campaign, wept in amazement Tuesday night at the resounding decision by American voters to send a black man to the White House.
After "a 54-year marathon race, Barack ran the last lap," Jackson told reporters following Obama's victory speech before tens of thousands at Grant Park in Chicago.
