Technological initiatives are required to put the U.S. economy back on track, Vice President Joseph Biden said on Monday in Michigan.
Biden, at a construction site in Midland, where Dow Kokam is building a factory to produce car batteries for electrically powered vehicles, said, "If we just restored the economy that existed in 1995, that is not enough to lead the world."
The Detroit News has reported that battery production at the site is expected to put 800 people to work, as well as provide 1,000 construction jobs to build the factory.

Munich - Vice President Joseph Biden is to make a "major" speech about the new US administration's defence and foreign policy at the end of next week in Munich, the organizer of a German conference said Thursday.
Wolfgang Ischinger said the address at the annual Munich security conference would set out the position of the administration of President Barack Obama, which was why Biden was attending rather than the US defence secretary who usually represents Washington.

According to the New York Times, the New York Daily News and others, Delaware Senator Joseph Biden is emerging as the clear favourite to be Barack Obama’s running mate.
Biden needs to thank his foreign policy bonafides for this. It was on show during his high profile trip to Georgia and call for aid to the country.
"Barring a big surprise or last-minute change of heart, the choice is likely to be Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee," Howard Fineman wrote on MSNBC today.

US Senator Joseph Biden has said that Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf will gently withdraw himself from power.
"I think he will go gently into the night," Biden said after returning from Pakistan, where he monitored the February 18 elections.
Biden, addressing a meeting at the Council of Foreign Relations in New York, said he has known Musharraf for 12 years and met him the morning after the elections.

Biden, who heads the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, was in Pakistan recently along with Senators John Kerry and Chuck Hagel to monitor the elections.

Democratic Senator Joseph Biden has said that the US should cut off military aid to Pakistan if parliamentary elections in that country are not free, fair and transparent.
Biden, who heads the Senate Foreign Relations Committee pointed out that there would be riots in Pakistan if elections were rigged.
Washington's "only real leverage" against the administration of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf was military aid, he added.
"I would move to cut off aid to Pakistan, military aid," The News quoted Biden, as saying.

The first point of the proposal says that the US must triple non-security aid to 1.5 billion dollars annually for at least a decade. This aid would be unconditioned. It would be the US’ pledge to the Pakistani people, as, instead of funding military hardware, it would build schools, clinics, and roads.
