New York - Kim Clijsters marked her comeback to tennis with a controversial win as she thrashed frustrated holder Serena Williams 6-4, 7-5 to power into the final of the US Open Saturday.
The match ended in unorthodox fashion, with the furious Williams called for a foot fault to yield a match point to the Belgian. With Williams then exploding at a line judge to draw a point penalty and the loss.

New York - Former champion Kim Clijsters made a run into the semi-finals of the US Open Tuesday as she played her first Grand Slam since quitting the game earlier this decade, producing a defeat of China's Li Na 6-2, 6-4 Tuesday.
The success for the 26-year-old Belgian who quit the sport nearly two and a half years ago for marriage and motherhood could send the one-time No 1 back to a ranking in the 50s a month after her comeback to the WTA.
Clijsters next faces a test between the winner from world No 2 and defending champion Serena Williams and Italian tenth seed Flavia Pennetta.

New York - Former champion Kim Clijsters returned to the US Open four years after her title success, joining a pair of seeds in the second round at the last Grand Slam of the season Monday.
The 26-year-old Belgian, who quit the game two and a half years ago, fully intent on starting a family and retreating into suburbia with her American basketballer husband, marked her return to the big stage 6-1, 6-1 over Viktoriya Kutuzova of Ukraine.

Cincinnati, Ohio - Kim Clijsters returned to a WTA quarter- final for the first time since early 2007 as her comeback to tennis continued full throttle Thursday at the Cincinnati Open.
The 26-year-old Belgian, who retired in May 2007 to get married and have a baby, has shown that her form has not deserted her, defeating current French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
Five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams was stunned in the third round, losing for the fourth time in seven meetings with Italian Flavia Pennetta 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.

Cincinnati, Ohio - Kim Clijsters proved her comeback to tennis is serious as the former number-one defeated longtime rival Patty Schnyder 6-2, 7-5 Wednesday to reach the third round of the Cincinnati Open.
The 26-year-old, back on court two years after retiring to marry and have a child, will next face her toughest test so far when she plays Russian eighth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Clijsters showed the spark which took her to the US Open title four years ago in the 70-minute victory, with her second win after re-starting her career this week to determine the state of her form 18 months after giving birth to daughter Jade.
