Rabat/Madrid  - Ask Moroccans what they think about King Mohammed VI, who marks the 10th anniversary of his accession to the throne on Thursday, and you are likely to get a positive answer.

"The king is good," says a taxi driver in the northern city of Meknes, while a 30-year-old Rabat teacher describes the monarch as "helping the poor."

Dhabi, Nov. 17th, 2008 --President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has sent congratulatory cables to Sultan Qaboos of Sultanate Oman, King Mohammed VI of Morocco and President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers, on the national days of their countries.

Rabat, Morocco - Moroccan politicians Friday welcomed a decentralization announced by King Mohammed VI as part of the search for a solution to the Western Sahara conflict.

Rabat was seeking "serious" negotiations under the United Nations to solve the three-decade conflict, which opposes Morocco to the Saharawi independence movement Polisario Front, government spokesman Khalid Naciri said.

The negotiations should, however, be based on an autonomy for the desert territory, instead of a 1991 UN plan for a regional referendum on independence, Naciri stressed.

Rabat, Morocco  - Morocco's King Mohammed VI on Wednesday congratulated US president-elect Barack Obama, praising his "high human qualities" and political capacity.

Moroccans shared with their US friends faith in Obama's values of "unity, freedom, equality, social justice, sense of duty and political realism," the king said in his message to the new US president.

Morocco wanted to work with Obama to consolidate its "privileged partnership" with the United States, Mohammed VI stressed.

The north African kingdom is known as one of the staunchest Western allies in the Arab world. (dpa)
