New Delhi, Dec 21 :The Delhi Police were Monday given 90 more days to file a charge sheet against Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leader Kobad Ghandy.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja agreed to Delhi Police's plea and dismissed an application of Ghandy for statutory bail.

New Delhi, Dec 14 : Police Monday informed the Delhi High Court that the probe into Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leader Kobad Ghandy's alleged anti-national activities is complete.
Justice Indermeet Kaur gave Delhi Police four weeks' time to file the investigation report and restrained it form conducting narco-analysis test on the 63-year-old Ghandy till further orders. The judge posted the case for February 1, 2010.
The court Nov 5 ordered police not to conduct narco test on Ghandy.
Kobad Ghandy wants to retract confession

New Delhi, Dec 11 : Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leader Kobad Ghandy Friday moved in a court here an application to withdraw his confession to police following his arrest on Sep 20, alleging that it was fraudulent.
"I wanted to retract from the forcible confession recorded by the police during my custody," said Ghandy, who was brought to the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja by the Andhra Pradesh police after their investigations.
Ghandy also alleged he was not aware of the contents of any such confessions as he was forced to sign on blank sheets.
Andhra police seek to interrogate Kobad Ghandy

New Delhi, Nov 17 : The Andhra Pradesh police Tuesday moved an application before a city court seeking custodial interrogation of proscribed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leader Kobad Ghandy, who is in Tihar jail.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja sought a report from Tihar jail superintendent on the application. The court will hear the application Wednesday after the response from Tihar jail superintendent is received.
In its application, the Andhra police said Ghandy was wanted in a case registered with the Karimnagar (rural) police station in 2008.

New Delhi, Nov 5 - The Delhi High Court Thursday put on hold till Dec 14 a planned narco test on Communist Party of India-Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy.
Justice Indermeet Kaur said the narco-analysis test would not be conducted, at least till Dec 14, the next date of hearing.
Ghandy had filed an appeal Wednesday challenging the Oct 21 order of a lower court that he undergo a narco test.
Ghandy was arrested Sep 21 and is in judicial custody. (IANS)

On Oct. 31, the trial court had permitted the Delhi police to conduct narco test on Kobad Ghandy, after the investigating agency contended that it had not been able to elicit all the information from him despite using all scientific methods of interrogation.

New Delhi, Nov 4 : Communist Party of India-Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy Wednesday approached the Delhi High Court challenging a trial court order allowing a narco test on him.
Ghandy filed the petition through his counsel Redecca M. John, citing a Supreme Court case where it is said that consent of a person is necessary before he undergoes narco test.
The petition is likely to be heard Thursday.

New Delhi, Oct 31 : The Patiala House court on Saturday allowed the Special Cell of Delhi Police to conduct a narco analysis test on Kobad Ghandy, a Polit Bureau Member of the banned CPI (Maoist).
The court’s decision comes after a medical board of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) submitted its report and gave the go-ahead for narco analysis test on Ghandy, saying that he can withstand the test.
The medical board has also said that the test should be conducted under strict medical supervision as Ghandy is suffering from hypertension and other ailments.

New Delhi, Oct 29 : A team of doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Thursday declared in a city court here that leader of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) Kobad Ghandy is medically fit to undergo narco-test as required by police.
The report was submitted before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja who reserved her final order on the police plea till Oct 31.
The court had last week asked the team of doctors of AIIMS to ascertain Ghandy's health condition.

It may seem incongruous for Kobad Ghandy, the jailed Maoist ideologue, to oppose violence. He does, but only excessive violence, which he believes cost the Reds their bastion in Andhra Pradesh.
“A few in the Party, including me, believe that it was our excessive reliance on violence instead of organising peaceful struggles that led to our eventual failure, Ghandy is believed to have told Tihar officials.
“But there were others who contested our view, saying it was impractical,” he added.

New Delhi, Oct 15 : A city court Thursday sent Kobad Ghandy, the arrested leader of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) outfit, to 14 days in judicial custody after expiry of his police remand.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja sent Ghandy to judicial custody till Oct 29.
The court also partially heard the bail application filed on his behalf and slated the next hearing for Oct 20.
The 63-year-old London-educated Ghandy, arrested here Sep 21, was residing in a rented house in south Delhi and was allegedly working to set up a base for the Maoists in the capital.

Did Kobad Ghandy, the UK-educated politburo member of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist), visit Lalgarh, the place in West Bengal that’s the hub of Naxalite disturbances? To get an answer, a team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials from the state is going to Delhi to interrogate the 63-year-old Maoist.
Lalgarh is located 160 km south-west of Kolkata.
The police sensed the possibility of Ghandy having a Lalgarh connection after they learnt from local people about “a very important person of the organisation” visiting the area.

New Delhi, Oct 8 : A city court Thursday extended the police remand of arrested Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leader Kobad Ghandy by seven days to enable police to interrogate him further.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja allowed Delhi Police's plea that they needed to interrogate Ghandy further and extended his police custody custody till Oct 15.
Police submitted that they needed more time to extract details of electronic evidence, which was missing, like the hard disk of the laptop recovered from the Maoist leader.

He was produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate Kaveri Baweja.
"I think it is exaggeration of the state that the person who writes for Maoists can be termed as a big catch," Ghandy said.
Ghandy, who heads the CPI (Maoist) publication wing, was nabbed in South Delhi following inputs from intelligence agencies. He has been a part of the People''s War Group (PWG) since its initial stages.

The Delhi Police contended before the court that they need to interrogate him to proceed further in the case. The court sent Ghandy to police custody until Oct 8.

Free Ghandy for release of abducted Jharkhand official: Maoists

Ranchi, Oct 4 Maoist guerrillas have demanded release of their senior leaders, including Kobad Ghandy, as a condition for freeing an abducted Jharkhand intelligence official, local media reports said Sunday.
Samarji, claiming to be secretary of South Chhotanagpur Committee of Jharkhand, called local Hindi newspapers late Saturday and informed them about the condition. The rebel said the Jharkhand intelligence official would be freed if the police release Ghandy, Chhatradhar Mahto and Chandra Bhushan Yadav.

The CPI(Maoist) has decided to launch a counter offensive against the state to press for the release of its politburo member, Kobad Gandy, arrested last week.
Issuing a press release from Dhanora in north Gadchiroli district, Maharashtra spokesman Ratan alleged the Ghandy was kept in illegal detention for four days in Delhi before police recorded his arrest on September 21 and was “inhumanly” tortured by the Delhi police.
