Palestinian President meets Pratibha Patil

Pratibha PatilNew Delhi, Oct 8: Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas met his Indian counterpart Pratibha Patil here last evening.

Abbas also met Leader of Opposition L. K. Advani.

Earlier, Abbas and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid the foundation stone of the chancery-cum-residence complex of the Embassy of Palestine and formally dedicated the building to the people of Palestine from the people of India.

Dr. Singh also pledged 20 million US dollars to Palestine authority for budgetary support as well as for various development projects.

India, Palestinian Authority take stock of Middle East peace process

Mahmoud AbbasNew Delhi - Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas Tuesday underlined India's importance to the Middle East peace process as India promised is ongoing support and announced a 20-million-dollar assistance package.

"India is playing an important role in all fields (concerning Palestine), including the peace process ... We appreciate India's support," Abbas said.

In a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Abbas discussed issues related to the Middle East peace process, officials said.

Mahmoud Abbas to arrive in India today

New Delhi, Oct 6 :Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud AbbasPalestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will arrive in India on a four-day visit today.

Abbas is likely to discuss the issues related to West Asia peace process with Indian leaders during his visit. He will also discuss how to further strengthen contacts between India and Palestine.

The Palestinian leader is also expected to apprise Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, and other leaders about the latest developments in the region.

Mahmoud AbbasNew Delhi, Oct 5 : Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will visit India on Monday.

According to reports, he is likely to discuss the issues related to West Asia peace process with Indian leaders during his visit to New Delhi.

The Palestinian leader is also expected to apprise the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, and other leaders about the latest developments in the region and recent his talks with Israeli leaders.

Visit to Washington was frank and successful

Ramallah  - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Tuesday that his visit to Washington was frank and successful.

He told reporters in Ramallah that his meeting with US President George W Bush last week "was mainly frank," adding that "we said exactly what we had and what was needed."

Abbas made the statements after attending special prayers for the Eid al-Fitr holiday, saying "the visit was successful by all measures."

Muslims Tuesday celebrated the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting, with the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

Abbas said his wish for the holiday is that the Palestinian people achieve national unity and get their independent state.

Washington - Palesitnian Authority President Abbas to visit Bush next weekPalestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is to visit US President George W Bush next Thursday, the White House said Friday.

The two men are to discuss progress toward building Palestinian institutions and "toward realizing the vision of two states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security," the White House said in a statement.
