Manmohan Singh to inaugurate jurists'' conference on terrorism

Manmohan SinghNew Delhi, Dec 9 : The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, will inaugurate a two-day international conference of jurists on terrorism, role of law and human rights here on December 13.

PM cancels Malda visit

Manmohan SinghPrime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Malda on Sunday was cancelled due to bad weather at Purnea and he has returned to Delhi from Kolkata.

He left the NSC Bose International Airport in Kolkata at 9.30 am.

West Bengal Chief Secretary Amit Kiran Deb told that, the Prime Minister was to fly to Purnea from Kolkata and reach Malda from there in a helicopter. "As the weather is bad in Purnea he has left for Delhi."

The district Congress leaders of Malda had requested the PM to contest the Parliamentary elections from the North Malda constituency created after delimitation

Vice President, PM greet nation ahead of Id-ul-Zuha

PM again assumes Finance ministry charge

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has again becomes the Finance Minister of the country amid tight monetary policy and global slowdown. Dr. Singh is known as the liberator of the Indian economy, as he initiated market reforms in 1991 as a Union finance minister. He terminated the 'licensee Raj' system and opened the doors of for multinational companies that helped to ensure above 9 per cent growth rate. 

Mamta meets PM, demands center's intervention

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee met the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at Raj Bhawan in Kolkata on Saturday evening during his visit to West Bengal. 

”We discussed issues like the (ruling) Communist Party of India-Marxist supported police atrocities on the tribal community at Lalgarh and demanded centre’s intervention in these issues,” Banerjee told after coming out of the meeting. 

She headed a seven-member delegation to the Raj Bhawan. The meeting lasted for around half-an-hour.

“Besides these issues we also told the prime minister about the state sponsored terrorism in Nandigram. Yesterday (Friday) one of our woman activists was assaulted by CPI-M cadres in Nandigram”, she added.

Manmohan Singh grants Rs 95 crore package for Viswa-Bharati University

Manmohan SinghKolkata, Dec 6 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has announced Rs. 95 crore package for the infrastructure development of Kolkata’s Viswa-Bharati University.

The Prime Minister announced the package while addressing the 37th convocation of Viswa-Bharati University in Santiniketan in Birbhum district of Kolkata today.

He said the government would strive to ensure that all Indians get a chance to complete his education.

Dr. Singh also said that the government would do everything possible to build the education infrastructure in the country.
