Chidambaram regrets police aggression on BJP leaders in Ranchi

NIA to probe only gravest cases: ChidambaramNew Delhi, Feb 17: Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will probe only the gravest incidents of terror crimes and a team of officers is already in place to handle such cases.

"Only gravest cases of crimes will be taken up for investigation by the NIA, which will operate in a concurrent jurisdictional framework," Chidambaram said.

Chidambaram was replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha.

"The first two quarter will indeed be difficult. The turnaround should come some time in October 2009, or little thereafter," he said at a meeting after inaugurating a branch of the Union Bank of India in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Addressing the media, Chidambaram said, "My initial response is that it is a positive development. The dossier handed over on January 5 was an exceptionally and tightly argued document, a cogently argued document that no one can ignore it."
