Hindraf leader Uthayakumar cannot claim defamation

P UthayakumarKuala Lumpur, August 7 : Malaysia’s Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail and Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan said on Thursday that Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) leader P. Uthayakumar does not have the right to claim RM100 million for defamation.

Uthayakumar had filed for a RM100 million defamation suit on January 4 against the government, Musa and Gani, for allegedly linking him with terrorist groups.

He alleged that the statement by Musa, which he claimed defamed him, was made to prevent feelings of hatred towards the government and avoid racial conflict.

Malaysian court accuses HINDRAF leader''s counsel of delaying hearing

P UthayakumarKuala Lumpur, Aug. 1 : A Malaysian High Court judge has accused the counsel of HINDRAF leader P. Uthayakumar of delaying his habeas corpus hearing.

According to the New Strait Times, Judge Suraya Othman told counsel S. Y. Chew that she was the one delaying the matter by giving excuses.

Chew had informed Judge Othman that she could not proceed with the hearing as there were contradictions found between the search lists prepared by the police and the detention centre authorities.

She asked for the court to allow Uthayakumar to file another affidavit.
