'Rashtrawadi Sena'' stages protest against Pakistan

Pratibha PatilNew Delhi, Dec 25 : ''Rashtrawadi Sena'', a radical Hindu organisation stages a protest demonstration here today demanding closure of terrorist training camps in Pakistan in the wake of recent Mumbai terror attacks.

Rashtrawadi Sena chief Jai Bhagwan Das urged the Central Government to mount a strong action against terrorists and destroy their camps in Pakistan.

President, Vice President greet people on Christmas

Pratibha PatilNew Delhi, Dec 24 : President Pratibha Patil and Vice President Hamid Ansari today greeted the people on the joyous occasion of ''Christmas''.

In her message, the President said, "On the joyous occasion of Christmas, let us recall the teachings of Jesus Christ and pledge to dedicate ourselves to spread his universal message of love and compassion. Let us also ensure that people from the disadvantaged sections of the society are also able to participate in this celebration, which is indeed the spirit of Christmas."

President Patil meets students of her Alma Mater

President Pratibha PatilNew Delhi, Dec 18 : President Pratibha Patil met a group of students from her alma mater, the Government Law College Mumbai, at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

During the interaction, the President sought to know why nearly half the group members were women.

The women students of the college informed the President that as an alumnus of the college she has been an inspiration for women wanting to take up a career in law.

National Awards presented for Indian craftpersons

President Pratibha PatilNew Delhi, Dec 15 : President Pratibha Patil today said that government should frame policies and programmes for ensuring welfare of handloom and handicraft artisans who have contributed in preserving and promoting India''s heritage.

After conferring National Awards for Master Craftpersons and Weavers and Shilp Guru Awards here, Patil said, "I would like to suggest that the government could bring in certain policies and programmes, which apart from addressing the developmental needs, should also address welfare concerns of artisans and weavers."

President to give away National Awards, Shilp Guru Awards todayNew Delhi, Dec 15 : President Pratibha Patil will give away the National Awards and the Shilp Guru Awards to the master craftspersons and weavers here today.

Union Minister for Textiles Shankersinh Vaghela and the Minister of State for Textiles E. V. K. S. Elangovan will also be present on the occasion.

77 National Awards for the year 2005 and 2006 are being conferred to selected master craftspersons and weavers by the President, as a token of recognition to their excellent craftsmanship.

Patil says ''Nature Trail'' will promote education among students

Pratibha PatilNew Delhi, Dec 13 : President Pratibha Patil today said that the President''s Estate serves as an ideal platform for promoting education about natural and environmental awareness amongst students and visitors.

Inaugurating the ''Nature Trail'', inside the President''s Estate, Patil said she was happy about the initiative taking shape and hoped that it would bring the President''s Estate closer to the people.

She also hoped the public would learn more about the importance of the environment.
