But TV officials defended the broadcast of the film, The Queen, saying they did not check the royals' visit schedule before planning their programmes.
Britain's William left New Zealand Tuesday after a three-day visit, his first solo official overseas tour representing his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.
In this wake there was controversy about the national television channel's decision to screen the film exploring the death of his mother, Princess Diana, while he was there.

It was recently reported that the Royal blabbermouth, who now lives in America, has been unable to sell his four-bedroom Georgian home in the Cheshire village of Farndon, despite it being on the market for over a year.
And now, it has been reported that his hopes of flogging his famous flower shop next door are also dwindling.

Hasnat Khan, 51, has secretly become engaged to Alexandra Panagoulas, 30 and the pair are now living together in London.
Friends have said that Panagoulas, originally from Athens, has made him “happier than he’s been in ages”.
“It is very happy news. Hasnat is in love with her and he is a good man, a man of quality. I like him very much,” the Daily Express quoted Panagoulas’s mother, Agallia, as saying.

London, Oct 30 : A thank you letter from Princess Diana, which she sent to her fashion designer pal Bruce Oldfield and business partner Anita, raked in a whopping 800 pounds at an auction after it was unearthed by Cash in the Attic.
The note and a Christmas card from Diana to Bruce raised the big amount for children''s charity Barnado''s at the special London auction on the BBC2 show.
The Princess of Wales sent the letter to her fashionable pal on December 20, 1988, to thank him for a blouse.

London, Nov 17 : Rapper Kanye West has likened himself to Princess Diana in an online rant about his arrest over an alleged scuffle with paparazzi photographer in a nightclub in the UK.
The 31-year-old singer was arrested on the suspicion of assaulting a photographer in Newcastle club, but was later released.
West criticised the media, whose practices he deems ‘intrusive’.

London, October 1: Four never-seen-before letters written by Princess Diana to her ex-nanny have fetched a staggering 21,000 pounds.
The letters went under the hammer on September 30.
The highest bid of 9,200 pounds was made for the letter in which teen Diana confessed she danced like an elephant, reports the Sun.
However, it was Di’s letter to Mary Clarke, written six months past her wedding to Prince Charles, that sell for an amazing 8,000 pounds – four times higher than expected.
