London, Mar. 5: Two ministers of the Indian Government have described the investigation into the death of a 15-year-old British girl in Goa as an embarrassment.

Tourism Minister Ambika Soni and the Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Chaudhary have said the way detectives in Goa had handled the investigation into the death of Scarlett Keeling in Anjuna was "an embarrassment".

This has prompted the local police to re-open the case.

According to The Telegraph, Keeling's body was found on the morning of February 19, just hours after she was seen leaving a beach bar.

New Delhi, Mar 4 : Union Minister for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury on Tuesday said that an action plan for rehabilitation and reintegration of trafficked victims into mainstream is on anvil.

Trafficking of women is the biggest of obscenities and "we need to raise our voices against it," Chowdhary said while presiding over a workshop organised by her ministry and United Nations Office on Drug and Crime.

She also emphasised on the need for increased awareness, greater resources and improved co-ordination to contain trafficking.

New Delhi, Mar 3 : In an effort to set right the country's skewed gender ratio, Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Chowdhary today launched a 'Conditional cash Transfer for Girl Child with Insurance Cover (CCT)' scheme here.

Unveiling the scheme, Chowdhary, said the scheme would encourage parents to educate the girl child and to help in changing their mindsets towards the girl. This will force them to look upon girls as an asset rather than a liability

New Delhi, Jan 28: A two-day Conference of State Woman and Children Development Ministers will begin here today to review programmes related to women and children.

Union Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Chowdhary will chair the Conference.

The Government has decided to expand Integrated Child Development Services Scheme (ICDS) to ensure 14 lakh Anganwadis in operation by the end of 2008.
