Nungambakkam (Chennai) [India], Jan. 9 : Rohan Bopanna and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan became the first Indian pair since 2011 to clinch the Chennai Open men's doubles title at the SDAT Stadium here last evening.

Bopanna and Nedunchezhiyan defeated fellow countrymen Purav Raja and Divij Sharan 6-3, 6-4 in the finals of the tournament to emulate Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, who achieved the feat as many as five times.

Paes won the title one more time in 2012 but that was with a Serbian player, Janko Tipsaveric.

Some sort of doubles history was created even before the first ball was hit, as it was for the time in the Chennai Open's 22-year existence that four Indians featured in the summit showdown.

Rohan Bopanna to reunite with Aisam-ul Haq Qureshi for doubles next season

Bopanna QureshiIslamabad, Oct 20 : Pakistan's Aisam-ul Haq Qureshi has confirmed that he will reunite with India's Rohan Bopanna in January for playing doubles with whom he parted ways two years ago.

According to The Express Tribune, Qureshi he first wants to finish the current year on a high note by playing at the London Masters among the top eight doubles teams in the world.

Aisam said that winning the Stockholm Open title would help him to perform better in the Basil Open and then in Paris in the coming weeks, the report said.

Aisam also said that the decision to play with Bopanna was only taken after a detailed discussion.

Bhupathi, Bopanna to renew partnership

Bhupathi-BopannaBangalore, April 1 : Following a good partnership in 2012 that saw them finish as finalists at the ATP World Tour Finals, tennis players Rohan Bopanna and Mahesh Bhupathi Monday renewed their partnership.

They experimented briefly with new partners earlier in the year. Bopanna won the Marseilles Open with Scottish partner Colin Fleming and Bhupathi partnered Michael Llodra to win the Dubai Open.

Currently India's top two doubles players, Bhupathi (No. 10) and Bopanna (No. 12) will be playing on the same side of the court, commencing with the Monte Carlo Masters.

Playing against the Czech-Polish pairing of Kveta Peschke and Marcin Matkowski, Hsieh-Bopanna lost 2-6, 3-6 in 58 minutes at the Margaret Court Arena.

Though the Indo-Taipei duo were ahead when it came to the number of aces fired and winners, they lost out at crucial junctures not earning even a single break-point.

Mahesh Bhupathi and his Serbian-born Canadian partner Daniel Nestor cruised into third round, while Rohan Bopanna and his American partner of Indian origin Rajeev Ram were surprisingly beaten.

Bhupathi and Nestor beat Romanian Victor Hanescu and Slovak Martin Klizan with a 6-1, 7-6 (8), while Bopanna and Ram lost to Italians Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fagnini with 2-6, 6-7 (3).

Bhupathi and Nestor will now play Bolelli and Fagnini.

The 210th-ranked Kudryavstev shocked Somdev 6-3, 6-4 to enter the quarterfinals.

But Bopanna kept the Indian interest alive. He with Chinese Taipei's (Taiwan) Lu Yen-hsun outplayed the Spanish pair of Inigo Cervantes-Huegun and Guillermo Plaso 6-3, 6-4.

Bopanna jumps 89 places in ATP rankings

Rohan-BopannaNew Delhi, Oct 5 : India's Rohan Bopanna marked his sensational comeback to singles play by making a quantum jump of 89 places to 358th in the Association of Tennis Professional (ATP) rankings released Monday.

The 29-year-old Bangalorean last week beat World No. 51 Argentine Jose Acasuso in the first round and then took a set off World No. 12 Chilean Fernando Gonzalez in the second.

India's No. 1 Somdev Devvarman climbed four places to 129th place while Prakash Amritraj gained two places to 229.

Bopanna-Quareshi crash out of Malaysian Open

The wildcard Indo-Pakistani duo registered an easy win in the first set. Bopanna-Qureshi duo broke their opponents twice in the first set to take lead in the match. But they failed to capitalize on their lead as they lost second set.
