Sukhbir Singh Badal, the Deputy Chief Minister Punjab said on the closing ceremony of rural games on Sunday that centre should develop a progressive formula for equitable distribution of the state’s share in Central taxes.
He said that Punjab has saved the nation two times in 1965 and 1971 from Pakistan’s attack but instead of appreciating Punjab for its contribution, the Union government was squeezing the revenue of Punjab by giving it a meager 1.29 per cent.

Following acts of violence by a heterodox religious sect, the Punjab government has decided to recover the cost of damage to property through new legislation.
On Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said: “Anyone found damaging public property on any pretext will have to pay (in accordance with the law) for the loss,” said Badal, who is in also charge of the home affairs and justice department.
Badal said the country was seeing a rise in violent protests.
“Punjab has also witnessed (many) instances of lawlessness in the past 10 years or so.

Chandigarh, Jan 8 : Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the wife of Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, Friday criticised the central government for its "cold hearted handling" of the attacks on Indian students in Australia, and demanded setting up of a parliamentary panel to study the situation.
Badal said a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) should visit Australia and submit a ground-level report to parliament on the attacks on Indian students and immigrants.

Chandigarh/New Delhi, Jan 6 : Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is deputy chief minister, Wednesday met Australian High Commissioner to India Peter Varghese, and sought immediate steps to ensure safety of Punjabi students and immigrants in that country.
The meeting by the Badals and their delegation with the high commissioner follows the death of two Punjabi youth in Australia in recent days. The attacks are being suspected to be racially motivated.

New Delhi, Jan 4 : Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday asserted that the Union Government should take the attacks on the youths in Australia seriously.
Badal’s comment came after a young Indian man living in Australia named Nitin Garg was stabbed to death at West Foorscray, a suburb of Melbourne by some goons on Saturday night.

HDFC Bank gets 70,000 salary accounts, Punjab police gets insurance

Chandigarh, Dec 16 : Over 70,000 personnel of the Punjab Police were Wednesday offered a New Year bonanza with deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal launching an insurance cover scheme for them.
The insurance cover scheme has been launched in a tie-up between the Punjab police and the HDFC Bank.
In lieu of the insurance cover, HDFC Bank will get the salary accounts of over 70,000 Punjab Police personnel.
Badal said the constabulary and the Other Ranks (ORs) would be the biggest beneficiaries of the new insurance scheme.

Chandigarh, Dec 8 : Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal Tuesday told the state assembly that the government would not allow the holding of any function which was likely to jeopardise the hard-earned peace and communal harmony in the state.
"The government has not allowed nor would allow anyone to disturb peace in Punjab," Badal said, even as his statement was interrupted by slogan-shouting Congress legislators.
Punjab to recruit 11,000 teachers in one year

Chandigarh, Nov 30 : The Punjab government would recruit 11,000 teachers in state-run schools within the next one year, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said here Monday.
"The previous government failed to recruit even a single teacher in their five-year rule. There were 25,000 vacancies of teachers in the state's 14,000 government schools. We recruited over 15,000 teachers last year and 11,000 vacancies will be filled within next one year," Badal said.

Jalalabad, Aug 31 : Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has demanded the Central Government to declare Punjab as Special Agricultural Zone (SAZ) on the lines of Special Economic Zones (SEZ).
Punjab having 1.3 per cent geographical area of the country was contributing 70 per cent wheat and 40 per cent rice in the national pool.

Chandigarh, Aug 30 : A helicopter, carrying Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, was forced to make an emergency landing in Punjab’s Ferozepur district on Sunday after developing a suspected technical snag.
Chief Minister''s media advisor Harcharan Bains said the helicopter, Bell 230, was chartered by Punjab Government, and that pilots experienced some difficulty just before the scheduled landing in Jalalabad.

Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal took oath as Deputy CM for the second time within eight months. He stayed out of the Punjab government for almost 40 days. Presently, his father Parkash Singh Badal is ruling the Punjab State and this is the second innings for Sukhbir Badal in the Punjab Government.
He defeated the congress candidate by a record 82,000 votes during Jalalabad by-election last week.

Governor S F Rodrigues administered the oath of office and secrecy to him at the Raj Bhawan.
The 47-year-old Sukhbir took the oath in Punjabi.

Chandigarh, Aug 6 : Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal registered a thumping victory in the Jalalabad constituency in Ferozpur district on Thursday as his party swept all three seats in a by election to the Punjab assembly.
Badal defeated his nearest rival former Minister Hans Raj Joshan of the Congress, by over 80,000 votes.
Earlier, Badal had resigned from the post of Punjab's Deputy Chief Minister, after he failed to make it to the assembly in the prescribed six month duration.

Chandigarh, Apr 20: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President and Punjab deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday released his party’s manifesto for general elections.
The party in its manifesto reiterated its commitment to continue its peaceful and democratic struggle for inclusion of Chandigarh and other Punjabi-speaking areas left out of the state back into Punjab and for getting the river water issue settled on the basis of nationally and internationally accepted Riparian Principle.
