Islamabad, Aug 13 : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that his country’s Army Chief Gen. Ashfaq Kayani was “highly professional and pro-democracy”, by not interfering into the process of impeachment of President Pervez Musharraf.
Gilani said this while speaking to reporters in response to a question about the role of the Pakistan Army in politics of the country.
“I want to assure you that COAS Gen Kayani is a highly professional officer and he is pro-democracy,” the Daily Times quoted Gilani as saying.
Islamabad, Aug 11 : Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani reportedly played a crucial behind-the-scene role in persuading PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari for deciding to bring about an impeachment motion against President Pervez Musharraf.
According to The News, Gilani told Zardari that they all should “swim and sink” with the political forces of PML (N) in the larger interests of democracy.
Islamabad, Aug 3 : Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has discontinued, may be temporarily, an old practice of meeting President Pervez Musharraf before and after every foreign visit.
“It is not required under the rules that the premier should meet the President every time he embarks on or comes back from a foreign visit,” a senior official said.
