Melbourne, July 26 : Peter Jackson has turned to aliens for the subject of his next film `District 9'.

The director of The Lord of the Rings trilogy recently appeared at the Comic Con pop culture festival in California to introduce his latest film.

Jackson teamed up with fellow filmmaker Neill Blomkamp for the project that tells the story of alien invasion and segregation in Johannesburg, reports News. com. au.

Blomkamp explained the reason for setting the pseudo-documentary in his childhood home of South Africa.

He said: "Because of South Africa''s really racially charged political background, that was the natural place for the story to go, with segregation and everything else.

"Ultimately it is a Hollywood thrill ride really more than any sort of political statement." (ANI)
