Planning Commission approves Rs 2,500 crore plan for TripuraThe Planning Commission of India has approved a plan size of Rs. 2,500 crore for the north eastern state of Tripura for the current financial year, 2013-2014.

The plan size, which is 11.1 per cent higher than the previous year, was discussed when Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia met Chief Minister of Tripura Manik Sarkar for a meeting.

“Tripura's growth rate for the 11th plan has been very good, roughly the same as the country as a whole. We have agreed on a plan size of Rs 2,500 crore and we have reviewed various aspects which are critical to the state,” Ahluwalia said.

Mr. Ahluwalia noted that the state has been performing well in agriculture sector. He alsos aid that the Chief Minister has discussed some of the critical infrastructure projects in the state. He admitted that some of these projects are running behind schedule and the authorities are likely to increase focus on the sector.

Ahluwalia also met Road and Railways Minister C P Joshi to discuss how to compete national highways project in the state. Chief Minister Sarkar said that the government is giving priority to general economic services followed by social services and agriculture in the state.
