According to reports, the Indian government plans to roll out the first set of its low-cost computing device, as almost 10,000 devices will be sent to the IIT-Rajasthan later this month.

Also, in the next four months, 90,000 extra devices will be released nationwide, and will cost Rs 2,200 while 50% of the cost will be subsidized by the Centre, as the government intends to maintain the price of the gadget, for the students, at roughly Rs 1,000.

Referring to the delay in the rolling out of the devices, officials expressed that “the company that was given the contract to manufacture one lakh pieces was bought over” and further stated that they have given the contract to a new manufacturer and there will be no issue of delay.

However, the gadget is said to have a 7-inch touch screen display, two USB ports, an external hard drive, a three-hour battery life, along with Word, Excel, power point, PDF viewer, Open office, zip/unzip facility, video streaming, flash video, web browser with JavaScript support and many more software applications.

The Indian Government disclosed the device to the public last year, which got ‘sensational’ response from the tech world, and the government anticipates that the device will expand the reach of technology to remote areas of the country.
