Police commissioner SK Saikia has issued notification containing strict guidelines regarding hookah bars. All the hookah bars ownerswill have to adhere to these guidelines.  

The new set of regulations includes installation of CCTVs and other rules regarding sitting arrangements. Recordings made by the cameras would be submitted to the area police station periodically.

Hookah bar owners must set transparent enclosures with proper lighting for smoking hookahs. Local police will conduct periodic inspection.

Notification further states that there should be a single room and not different rooms or cabins. The room and passageway should have proper light. Dimly-lit ambience will be considered illegal.

The new rules require the bar owner to have a proper system to record the age with documentary proof such as driving licence, election card or passport.

Notification clearly states that every fortnight, the inspector would check the flavours used in hookah and send it to the forensic laboratory for testing. Any untoward case would be directly reported to deputy commissioner of police of the zone.
