Etah, Apr 2 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday alleged that Varun Gandhi had been harassed and tortured in the jail.
"Varun Gandhi was kept in a small cell, where he could not see anyone. Inhuman treatment was meted out to him. He was harassed and tortured," Naidu told reporters after meeting Varun in Etah District jail here.
The BJP leader claimed that Varun was implicated under a conspiracy of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Congress.
New Delhi, Apr 2: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) underplayed the reports of distribution of money by its party leader Jaswant Singh at an election campaign whereas the Congress party sought action by the Election Commission.
However, the party contended that it would take a decision in case the Election Commission takes cognisance of this particular issue.

Pilibhit, Mar 29 : Former Union Minister and mother of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi, Maneka Gandhi, on Sunday said registration of cases against her son was part of a `political conspiracy'.
"The registration of cases against Varun is part of a political conspiracy. It is frivolous. Varun is not a criminal. It is incorrect to register cases against him," Maneka told reporter after meeting her son in the district jail.
New Delhi, Mar 29 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Lal Krishna Advani on Sunday said that the party's decision to reject Election Commission's advice not to field Varun Gandhi for the Lok Sabha Polls, was right.
"The party has taken a correct stand under the law and in accordance with Constitution," Advani said.
He, however, advised the party candidates to show restraint in their speeches.
Pilibhit, March 29 : Pilibhit police on Sunday lodged an FIR against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi for making inflammatory anti-Muslim remarks and creating a riot-like situation in the district.
The Kotwali Police Station has charged Gandhi for making communal remarks and insulting the minority community.
The police have also lodged an FIR against BJP''s election-in-charge for Uttar Pradesh Kalraj Mishra for violating the model code of conduct.
