Poll boycott only after consensus, says Benazir

Washington, Dec 1: Former Pakistan Prime Minster Benazir BhuttoFormer Pakistan Prime Minster Benazir Bhutto has said that her Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) may revise its decision to take part in the January 8 elections only if it could agree on a “common goal” with those advocating a boycott.

Benazir told Voice of America the boycott of elections by opposition parties would give leverage to the ruling group.

By taking part in the elections, the PPP would be able to fight, if not overcome, election rigging; the Daily Times quoted her, as saying.

Benazir said those who are against participation in the elections must convince her party that it was the best way of ensuring the return of democracy.

She said the PPP was not sending “double signals” to parties advocating a boycott. (ANI)
