Posco’s proposal now up for rework
In a major event that took place in the country, the Posco review panel ahs recently submitted a split verdict in regards to the South Korean steel maker's Orissa project.
While a dominant part of the verdict viewed the revoking of environmental and coastal regulation zone clearances, a source in the government said that the reworking of the proposal may open new gates for the project in the coming times.
While it is believed that the reworked proposal will be made keeping in mind things like implementation of Forest Rights Act, environmental protection particularly water supply source, controlling increased pollution in the area and location of the captive port, which may work in favour of the international steel producer.
Sources close to environment ministry have said that the decision will surely involve a lot of effort to balance the political concerns with the upholding of laws with the land.
The sources have further mentioned that there is very much a possibility of the resolution being passed even before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visits Seoul on November 11 for the G-20 summit.
