Wolfsburg, Germany - Volkswagen is taking orders for what it describes as "the most powerful series built Scirocco" with an output of 195 kW/265 hp based largely on the GT24 version designed for the race track.

First deliveries are planned by the end of the year for a price on the German market of 34,000 euros (47,000 dollars).

Large air intake openings in the front bumper, providing optimal cooling for the engine and the brakes, and the integrated front spoiler distinguishes it from the exterior. The roof edge spoiler is much larger than on the standard model.

From the side the "R" is characterised by the powerful sill panels and 18-inch "Talladega" alloys. The first Scirocco sports coupe took to the road in 1974 with the third generation model released a year ago. (dpa)
