Technology giant, Apple has said that pre-orders of its iPhone 4S has now crossed the one million mark in a single day.

The pre-orders for the iPhone 4S has broken the previous single-day pre-order record of the company's smartphone. The pre-orders of the phone surpassed one million in the first 24 hours compared to 600,000 units recorded by the iPhone 4.

Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide product marketing said ina statement, "We are blown away with the incredible customer response to iPhone 4S. The first day pre-orders for iPhone 4S have been the most for any new product that Apple has ever launched and we are thrilled that customers love iPhone 4S as much as we do."

The high level of pre-orders received by the company has surprised market experts, who had predicted that the customers will not be excited about the iPhone 4S as they were expecting the launch of a new iPhone 5 earlier this week.

The new iPhone 4S is available for pre-order since last Friday and will be available in Apple stores in the US from this Friday. The iPhone 4 has been the company's best selling smartphone yet. Apple has said that it has sold more units than first three generations of iPhones combined.

It is to be seen if the new iPhone 4S will be able to attract a great number of users and surpass other records set by the earlier iPhone 4 model.
