President confers six Kirti Chakras and 20 Shaurya Chakras

Kirti Chakras and Shaurya ChakrasNew Delhi, May 14 : President Pratibha Devisingh Patil conferred six Kirti Chakras and 20 Shaurya Chakras to serving and retired armed forces personnel and civilians for displaying conspicuous gallantry, indomitable courage and extreme devotion to duty, at a ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhawan today.

The President also conferred 17 Param Vishisht Seva Medals, 27 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals to senior officers of the Armed Forces for distinguished service of an exceptional order.

Kirti Chakra was awarded to Dayanand Pandey (posthumous), Shan Ahmed (posthumous), Tarun Kumar Dutta (posthumous), Naik Radhakrishnan (posthumous), Captain Subhash Chand Punia and Captain Abhinav Handa.

Shaurya Chakra were awarded to Sgt Jai Prakash Shukla (posthumous), Captain Sunil Yadav, Sepoy Rahul (posthumous), Sapper Shinde Ramachandra Shivaji, (posthumous), Subedar Manohar P, Lance Naik Jyotish Prakash (posthumous), Company Havildar Major Ramesh Chandra Pandey, Maj Aman Oberoi, Maj Anshul Shukla, Maj Sanjay Kumar Tanwar, Rifleman Raiece Ahmad Ganaie, Maj Swapneesh Parihar, Lance Naik Ravinder Singh Malik (posthumous), Sqn Ldr Shantanu Basu,
(posthumous), Naik Rajan Singh, Maj Ishwar Singh Dahiya, Rifleman Abdul Hamid Chara, (posthumous), Havildar Udar Bhanudas Parvati, (posthumous), Assistant Commandant Anurag Kumar and Maj Virender Singh Salaria.

Param Vishisht Seva Medal was given to Lt Gen Milan Lalitkumar Naidu, Lt Gen Harcharanjit Singh Panag, Vice Adm Nirmal Verma, Air Marshal Packiam Paul Rajkumar, Air Marshal Pranab Kumar Barbora, Air Marshal (retired) Jayant Satchidanand Apte, Air Marshal (retired) Yeshwant Rao Rane, Lt. Gen Thomas Mathew, Lt Gen Mandhata Singh, Lt Gen Sarabjit Singh Dhillon, Lt Gen Pitamber Kishore Rampal, Lt Gen Saibal Mukherjee, Lt Gen Sivasankara Pillai Sree Kumar, Lt Gen Prakash Singh Chaudhary, Lt Gen (retired) Ajeet Singh Bajwa, Lt Gen (retired) Puttammadam Rajah Gangadharan and Vice Adm Birinder Singh Randhawa.

In a significant step that will bring cheers to the Gallantry Award winners of both pre and post Independence period, the Government today announced substantial increase in the monetary allowance to personnel of the Armed Forces, who had won the laurels in the line of duty. The proposal for the increase, which has been 100 per cent or more in all cases, was initiated at the direction of the Defence Minister AK Antony.

The Government has also decided to grant monetary allowance at enhanced rate of Rs. 500/- per month to the Sena / Nao Sena / Vayu Sena Award Medal awardees, where the awards have been given for Gallantry. This will be payable to those who have been given these awards on January, 26, 1999 or thereafter. (ANI)
