Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall start their Third Joint Official Visit to US

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall have started their three-day visit to the US. They have arrived in Washington DC. During their stay, they will President Barack Obama at the White House.

It is the third joint official visit for the royal couple to America and will be spent majorly in the capital. In the Oval Office, Obama will have informal talks with them. British ambassador Sir Peter Westmacott said that the trip is expected to result into the best of transatlantic relationship.

On Wednesday, Prince Charles will visit the National Archives, starting the trip. There, he would view the United States' "Charters of Freedom" and the 1297 version of the Magna Carta. He is also scheduled to give speech to the representative of big companies, leading environmental groups and governments.

They all will be present there to discuss the issue of plastic waste in seas and oceans. There are different plans for the duchess. She will visit the city’s Shakespeare Theatre Company and will then be taken on a tour.

For Prince Charles, this one is his 20th official visit to the United States. The royal couple will also visit some of the historic sights of Washington, including the Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King.

Before their arrival, Sir Peter said that he is pleased that the royal couple is visiting America. “Their trip to Washington and Kentucky will showcase the best of the transatlantic relationship - promoting democratic values, combating climate change, preserving the natural environment, creating opportunities for the next generation”, said Sir Peter.

Their visit is also a reminder that the Royal Family has an important role to play when it comes to maintaining the transatlantic relationship. Prince Charles will receive an award for exceptional leadership in conservation.
