Project Medishare Co-Founder from Miami Emerging as Key Players in Helping Earthquake Victims

Dr. Barth A Green, a University of Miami Neurosurgeon, who was perhaps the first doctor from overseas to reach Haiti post the disastrous earthquake, is the co-founded Project Medishare in the small nation.

The medical expert, who is responsible for heading The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, is turning out to be one of the key personalities involved in the urgent and important task of saving injured Haitians.

Thanks to the fact that he had co-founded Project Medishare for Haiti in 1994, Dr. Green knows the area real well. The Haiti Project was founded by the neurosurgeon when he and Dr. Arthur Fournier, a community-health specialist, together led a drive to help the impoverished country gain the much required medical aid.

64 year old Dr. Green was one of the first foreign doctors to fly out to Haiti after the fateful Tuesday, which left millions dead and injured.

"Because of that background, he and Art have a lot of contacts", said Dr. William O'Neill, executive dean of clinical affairs at UM's Miller School of Medicine.

Medishare, which has been a much celebrated initiative, currently runs numerous clinics and training programs across various cities of Haiti.

For the victims of the latest earthquake, Dr. Green is helping coordinate international medical relief, and will also supervise the construction of a new hospital in the area.
