Punjab has recorded its first human swine flu-related death.

The health officials informed that a 12-year-old school girl died at a Chandigarh Hospital on Monday morning.

The girl named Harshita was a resident of Meerut and a hosteller of Ambala-based Chaman Vatika School.

Harshita was brought from Ambala and admitted to Chandigarh’s Chaitanya Hospital in Sector 44 on Friday.

"She was immediately put on medicines and ventilator support," said Nodal Officer H C Gera.

The victim, VI standard student of Chaman Vatika School was tested positive for the swine flu.

Five more students of the same school have also reported tested positive for the flu.

Meanwhile, the health authorities are trying their best to map out all persons who were in direct contact with the victim.

Notably, Chandigarh, also known as the city beautiful, has so far reported over 40 positive cases for the deadly swine flu.
