Real Madrid hero Raul to play one more game for Spain
Madrid - Real Madrid hero Raul will play one more game for Spain, according to radio station Cadena SER on Monday evening.
SER claims that Raul, 31, will be invited to play in the November friendly, probably against Argentina, that the Spanish federation is organizing to celebrate its centenary.
According to SER, the idea comes from Fernando Hierro, the federation's sporting director, and former team-mate of Raul for Spain and Real. National manager Vicente del Bosque is believed to be receptive to the idea.
Raul is the highest goal scorer in the history of the Spanish national team, having scored 44 goals in 102 games. Only former goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta has won more caps for Spain than Raul, having played 126 international matches.
Controversially, Raul has not played for "La Seleccion" since 2006, after allegedly feuded with manager Luis Aragones at the 2006 World Cup finals.
Last week Raul said that he would love to play again for Spain, "even if it is for just one game."
On Sunday Raul broke the Real Madrid scoring record of Alfredo Di Stefano, scoring twice in the 4-0 thrashing of Sporting Gijon to take his Real tally to 309. (dpa)
