Madrid - Vicente Boluda, interim president of Spanish giants Real Madrid, has told sports daily AS that elections will be held at the club on July 5.

AS on Wednesday quoted Boluda as saying, in an interview which took place on Tuesday night, that "the elections will be held on July 5... It is impossible to organize them before."

So far, there has been no official confirmation from the club

of the July 5 election date.

He added that on July 7 "the players will return from holiday, and on the 10th they will be in training."

Boluda did not clarify whether he would be a candidate or not.

The clear favourites to win the elections is Florentino Perez, Real president from 2000 to 2006, though he has not yet confirmed his candidature.

Boluda confirmed to AS that the club's annual general assembly would be repeated on March 29, and this has been announced on the club's official website.

The assembly originally took place on December 7 last year, but has been invalidated because former club president Ramon Calderon controversially sneaked unqualified delegates into the assembly in order to guarantee a favourable vote for his proposed budget and other measures.

The scandal of the unqualified delegates, which was revealed by sports daily Marca, led to Calderon resigning in disgrace in January, and to Boluda being appointed interim president until the elections. (dpa)
