Rome - A 1-0 defeat away to Lazio Wednesday doomed Reggina to relegation with one game remaining in the Serie A season.

Argentine Mauro Zarate scored Lazio's close-range winner on 26 minutes in a game played ahead of the remaining Sunday ties as Rome's Stadio Olimpico is to be fitted for the Champions League final between Barcelona and holders Manchester United on May 27.

Reggina will play the next season in the Serie B as even a win in their last game won't allow them to come out of a three-team drop zone they managed to narrowly escape in the past seven seasons.

Lecce, Bologna and Torino, with two games to play, are the other clubs in trouble in the relegation zone.

Lazio lie safe in mid-table, but are pleased with a season during which they won the Italian Cup.

The Rome side won the trophy for the fifth time beating Sampdoria on penalties earlier this month. The success granted them a berth in the Europa League, a new continental tournament taking the place of the UEFA Cup.(dpa)
