Ancient 5,000 year-old seal dating back to Bronze Age discovered in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, March 2 : An archaeological team has found an ancient stone cylinder seal in UAE (United Arab Emirates) dating back to the beginning of the local Bronze Age, around 5,000 years ago.

According to a report in Gulf News, it is the first of its type found in Arabia and was found in the deserts of the Al Gharbia area (Western Region) of Abu Dhabi.

The discovery was made by a team from GRM International that is currently undertaking the Abu Dhabi Emirate soil survey, which is managed by EAD (Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi).

The seal was lying in an area where samples were being collected.

Cargo ship goes missing near Abu Dhabi coast

Abu Dhabi  - A cargo ship and its crew have been reported missing off the Abu Dhabi coastline, officials said on Friday.

"We lost contact with the ship two days ago," said Muhair Ali al- Khatri, director general of the Critical National Infrastructure Authority (CNIA).

The unnamed vessel, which was carrying cars and trucks, went missing between Jebel Dhanna and al-Qarnain island, which lies 180 kilometres north-west of Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates.

Al-Khatri was quoted by the official WAM news agency as saying that CNIA dispatched six rescue boats and two helicopters to search for the vessel, which had nine people onboard.

ADNOC to cut oil production from Murban and Upper Zakum

OPECAbu Dhabi, Dec. 25, 2008 -- The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, ADNOC, will cut oil production from Upper Zakum and Murban with effect from January 2009, a statement issued by the company has said, attributing the move to a decision taken by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to reduce production from January 2009.

"In accordance with OPEC decision to reduce production, we regret to advise you the following cut for your January 2009 allocations, Murban 15% and Upper Zakum 3%," an ADNOC circular to its clients said.
