Patnaik to join the Third Front, says Deve GowdaBangalore, Mar 10 : JD (S) chief H D Deve Gowda has declared that the Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has agreed to join the Third Front.

"I have spoken to Naveen Patnaik and he has agreed to join the Third Front unconditionally," Deve Gowda told reporters at Bangalore on Tuesday.

The BJD recently ended its 11-year-old alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Orissa.

Police detain 110 party crowds in BangaloreBangalore, Mar 8 : The Karnataka Police detained 110 persons from a farmhouse in Ramanagara district here on Sunday morning. The detainees were engaged in a party.

The detained persons include 20 women.

A senior police official said the police raided a farmhouse at Chunchanakuppe near Dodda Aaaladamara, at around 4 a. m.

The place is about 25 kilometers from the state capital.

The arrested persons also included four women of foreign origin. One woman was from Tanzania; one from Bhutan and two belonged to Iran.

Dismissed Venkatesh Joins BJP

Dismissed Venkatesh Joins BJPIn a significant move, dismissed member of the National Commission for Women (NCW) Nirmala Venkatesh on Thursday joined the BJP in Bangalore.

BJP’s Karnataka Unit Mahila Morcha general secretary Mangala Sridhar admitted Venkatesh into the party.

Confirming the development, Mangala Sridhar said, “Nirmala has been admitted into the BJP and will campaign for the party in the parliamentary poll to expose the Congress.”

However, no top leader from BJP was present when she joined the party at its office.

Executive held for rape attempt

The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested a city-based senior executive of an MNC, for his alleged attempt to rape a Mumbai doctor.

The accused has been identified as Sameer Pareeja (40), assistant vice-president of a Pune-based MNC firm.

The Mumbai police arrested the accused from Bangalore. Police said that Pareeja posed as Raj, working on a World Bank project in Tokyo, and met the victim on an online matrimonial site, Jeevansathi.com.

Mumbai police said that while exchanging photographs, he allegedly forwarded her pictures of a male model instead of his own. The 35-year-old doctor, however, mailed him her original photographs.
