Death toll in Bangladesh mutiny rises to 62Dhaka  - The death toll in the Bangladesh troop mutiny rose to 62 Friday with rescuers recovering more bodies of army officers from headquarters the paramilitary border guards in central Dhaka.

The rescue teams retrieved 38 bodies, including that of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) chief Major General Shakil Ahmed, from a mass grave inside the compound.

Investigation into Bangladesh mutiny launchedDhaka  - Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed Friday appointed a high-powered committee to launch an investigation into a mutiny at the border guard headquarters in central Dhaka which ended Thursday, officials have confirmed.

Authorities have also appointed Brigadier General Moinul Hossain as new chief of the country's paramilitary Bangladesh Rifles(BDR) force on Friday, as its former director general remains missing, presumably killed, following a mutiny two days ago.

38 more bodies found at BDR headquartersDhaka, Feb 27 : Thirty-eight more bodies were found on Friday during the rescue operation at the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) headquarters.

Thirty-four of the bodies were recovered from a fifteen-feet-deep hole located beside the BDR hospital mortuary while the other four bodies were recovered from a sewage-filled canal off the headquarters.

Army launches search for missing officers after mutineers surrender Dhaka - Convoys of army troops Friday entered the headquarters of the paramilitary Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) to search for missing army officers, while police arrested more than 200 border troops involved in a mutiny against their commanders two days ago.

"The army entered the compound with the prime minister's permission to join the ongoing search," said Home Minister Sahara Khatun, who visited the central Dhaka BDR headquarters after the troops' surrender on Thursday.

Surrender arms, or I'll take steps: Sheikh HasinaDhaka, Feb 26 : Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today urged Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) mutineers to surrender their arms, otherwise action would be taken against them in the interest of the country.

In a brief address to the nation, Hasina said, "You surrender the arms. I'm giving you my word that none of you will be harmed. Otherwise, I'll be bound to take any step in the interest of the country".

"I am trying to solve the problems through negotiations, not through using force," she added.

India confident that Bangladesh situation will be resolved amicably

India, Bangladesh border forces pledge to bury mistrust New Delhi - India said Thursday that the border guards' mutiny in neighbouring Bangladesh was an internal matter and it was confident that the neighbouring country would resolve the situation amicably.

There is growing concern in India over the volatile situation in Bangladesh. The two nations share a 4,096-kilometre border

"As regards our border [with Bangladesh], the area is safe and secure," Vishnu Prakash, spokesman for India's External Affairs Ministry said in a statement.
