Dehradun, Nov. 25 : A Dehradun school here is inculcating communal harmony and secular feeling among its students by enabling them to recite passages from Holy Quran as well as chant Gayatri Mantra and Hanuman Chalisa during assembly everyday.

The novel method of devloping secular feelings and respect for all religions is something that has appealed all students at the school.

There are 450 students at the Sanatan Dharma Senior Seconday School, two hundred of them being Muslim girls.

Dehradun, Nov. 23 : Gurudwara Angitha Sahib in Sahaspur near Dehradun in Uttarakhand holds a unique significance for the Sikh community. For, at this gurudwara, the personification of Shri Guru Granth Sahib is performed in an ultimate manner.

At Angitha Sahib, the old copies of Guru Granth Sahib from all over the world are put to flames as part of funeral rites. The whole procedure is a way of bidding farewell to the scriputre with utmost reverence. This is the only Gurudwara, which performs this ritual.

Dehradun, Oct 20 : Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi will begin his three-day visit to Uttarakhand from today.

The tour is being held to attract youths to the party, and also to restructure the National Students Union Of India (NSUI) and the Youth Congress by experimenting with internal elections.

During his visit, Rahul will participate in a convention of girl students at Ramnagar where he will answers to the girl students questions.

Singur/Dehradun, Sept 26 : Tata Motors has begun moving equipment out from its factory in Singur due to the prolonged disruption of work.

"We were asked to remove machineries as the work is anyway stalled. There are a lot of problems here, and it doesn''t seem the work will begin," said Rajiv, a worker.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Industries Minister Nirupam Sen reportedly told the state Cabinet that there is little possibility of the Tata''s Nano car project taking off from Singur.

Dehradun/Bheemwala, Aug 21 : Uttarakhand streets in several low-lying towns are submerged and fields are flooded with water following heavy rains for the past few days.

Road transport has been badly affected as several roads in the state have been damaged due to the incessant rains.

The national highway that links Uttrakhand to Himachal Pradesh is blocked. Residents in Dehradun complained of frequent traffic jams.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand), July 25 : A record rainfall in Dehradun city of Uttarakhand has brought everything here to a standstill. Local residents observe it as a quite unusual occurrence for July in this part of the State.

Dehradun has witnessed 596-millimetre rainfall this month, which is a record here for July.

The monsoon arrived much earlier this year as compared to the previous years. The normal rainfall in June used to be 225 millimeters but it was 598 millimeters this year.

Heavy rains have caused massive damage to public property. Dehradun has been badly affected with low-lying areas either submerged or clogged by water.
