Assam journalists’ forum condemns health minister’s attitude

AssamGuwahati, Apr. 14: The Journalists' Forum, Assam has condemned the attitude of Himanta Biswa Sharma, the State health minister and the spokesman of Assam government, for maligning the image of media persons in Assam, and asked him to identify the journalist, who had submitted the mobile call list of an individual to the minister.

The forum expressed anguish that the particular journalist (who supplied the call list of Hiranya Saikia to Sharma) has compromised all values of journalism to take such a shameful act. He or she must be condemned in the strongest words.

The Marshal of the Air Force was born on April 15, 1919 at Lyallpur. He was educated at Montgomery and later at Government College, Lahore.

In 1938, he was selected for pilot's training at Cranwell, UK and was commissioned as a pilot in the Royal Indian Air Force in December
1939. He joined No. 1 Squadron in September 1943. He was awarded the `Distinguished Flying Cross' in 1944, for his outstanding leadership in the Burma Campaign during World War II.

Congress protests MP lawmaker''s murder, blames oppositionGwalior, Apr 14: The Congress party on Tuesday called for a shutdown in Bhind and Datia districts of Madhya Pradesh to protest the murder of lawmaker Makhan Singh Jatav the previous night.

Congress leaders are blaming the opposition for the murder and have demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry in the matter.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, however, has urged the party not to politicise the killing.

Over 500 couples enter wedlock in Punjab

PunjabNoshera Dhala (Punjab), Apr 14: Over 500 couples tied the knot on Monday in a mass marriage ceremony held here on the occasion of Baba Jalan Dass Baisakhi Mela.

The organisers were praised for taking care of all expenses.

"Every person decides about his or her partner. Their names are registered only after the village head's recommendation. Later, the date of marriage is fixed," said Kanwerjit Singh, one of the organisers.

"Last year, we organised 175 marriages and this year around 500 marriages took place," he added.
