As students twitter away in their board exam answer sheets, a problem of 'ggntic' proportions is in the making. Two injured as balcony collapses

Two people sustained injuries after a balcony measuring ninety feet of a shopping centre at City Light road here collapsed on Tuesday. More than 15 shops located at the shopping centre were damaged due to the incident.

According to information, the gallery-cum-balcony of first floor in Heera Panna shopping centre accidentally collapsed and the two injured were stuck in the debris.

Fire fighters rushed to the spot after learning about the incident and started removing debris from the spot. The two injured were identified as Chetan Umariya and Akshay Bhandrai. They were shifted to New Life Hospital.

Gas leakage lays 50 low

More than 50 people, including four children, have been admitted to the NMMC Hospital at Vashi on Tuesday morning after they complained of breathlessness following gas leakage at Sheetal Cold Storage in Pawane village. The incident occurred at around 3 am, sources said. Three fire officers were also affected by the gas leakage and have been admitted to the hospital.

All the patients are out of danger and most of the people suffered from vomiting and respiratory problems, Dr Arti Kajrolkar from NMMC hospital said.

Gold is out, fake currency is in

The gold smuggling ring that went out of activity post-liberalisation is into something new. Revenue intelligence agencies are tracking down some key gold smugglers for assisting Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) smuggle in fake Indian currency.

"There is credible evidence to suggest that the network is being used to smuggle fake Indian currency notes (FICN) now," a senior intelligence official said. ISI is pursuing this on a massive scale, he said.

Gold smuggling was a lucrative trade in the pre-liberalisation era. But it slowly fizzled out after 1991.

Andheri double murder: Three watchmen held

Andheri police arrested three watchmen from Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday, for the murder of a senior citizen and his wife in Andheri (East) last week.

An eight-year-old child in Fatehpur identified the photos of the prime accused and received a reward of Rs 15. The accused have been identified as Amit Kumar, 18, Sikander Balmiki, 22, and Sudhir Balmiki alias Goolu, 20.

"Amit called Sikander and Sudhir on the pretext of watching television at Chandnani's house. They threw a bedsheet over the old lady and suffocated her to death. Then they pressed pillows over her bedridden husband's face, smothering him to death," said Archana Tyagi, additional commissioner of police, western region.
