Islamabad - Health authorities were struggling to treat hundreds of patients affected by a cholera outbreak in Pakistan's conflict-ridden Swat mountain district, a media report said Friday.
At least 600 suspected cases were reported in the past three days in Swat, where security forces have been battling Islamist militants for nearly a year, the Urdu-language Aaj news channel said.
Two children admitted to a state-run hospital in Saidu Sharif died from cholera Thursday. The town appeared to be the worst-affected area as more than 100 patients were registered Friday.
Islamabad, Oct 3: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has reportedly condemned yesterday’s suicide attack on ANP chief Asfandyar Wali in the strongest terms and vowed to continue the fight against terrorism.
The President also called up ANP Chief and expressed his gratitude to Allah Almighty that the veteran politician and coalition partner Asfandyar Wali was safe.
Islamabad, Oct 3 : Reacting to yesterday’s suicide attack on the ANP Chief Asfandyar Wali, known for his anti-Taliban rhetoric, Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior, Rehman Malik reiterated the federal government’s resolve to fight against terrorism.
He said the fight would continue till the elimination of terrorists from the country.
“The government will continue war against terrorism till elimination of terrorists or they left the country,” The News quoted him as saying in an interview with the Geo TV.
Islamabad- Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Thursday the United States could not win its fight against terrorism without Pakistan's support, a day after he condemned US aerial attacks inside the country as "acts of terrorism."
"Pakistan is a frontline ally in the fight against terrorism. It has a unique strategic position and (the) US cannot think of fight(ing) terror without it," he told reporters in the central city of Multan.
Islamabad- At least four people, including two policemen, were killed on Thursday when a suicide bomber tried to target the head of the ruling party in Pakistan's militancy-hit North Western Frontier Province (NWFP), officials said.
The bomber blew himself up at the entrance of the house of Asfand Yar Wali, the head of the ruling Awami National Party
(ANP), in Wali Bagh village of Charsadda district. Wali was just about to leave his house when security officials stopped him, said the NWFP's Information Minister Iftikhar Hussain.
Islamabad - A United Nations official said on Thursday the organization had decided to evacuate the children of its international staff in Pakistan following the suicide bombing of Islamabad's Marriott hotel.
"We had recommended to raise the security level for the UN staff from level two to level three, which has been recommended by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon," a UN official told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa on condition of anonymity as she was not supposed to talk to the media before the release of an official statement later Thursday.
