Islamabad, Oct 2: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has reportedly said that Pak-China friendship was very old and will grow stronger in future.
Pakistan-China friendship is rooted in the ethos of the people and will continue to gain strength in the days to come, said Zardari while talking to China’s Vice-Foreign Minister and Special Envoy Wu Dawei, who called on him here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.
Wu Dawei is visiting Pakistan to hold discussions with Pakistan on promoting bilateral cooperation and discuss regional and global issues.
Islamabad, Oct 2: In the aftermath of the September 20 devastating bomb blast on hotel Marriott killing 60 people in Islamabad, the British Government has decided to withdraw the children of all its diplomats based in Pakistan after conducting a security review.
Presently, there are a total of 60 children of British diplomats in Pakistan and will soon leave the country.
“Following a review of security in the wake of the attack on the Marriott Hotel, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has decided that the children of UK-based staff at the British High Commission in Islamabad should return to the UK,” The Telegraph quoted a Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman as saying.
Islamabad, Oct 1: Baitullah Mehsud, a top commander of the Pakistan’s unit of the Taliban – the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), reportedly died of a prolonged illness on Tuesday. He was initially accused of masterminding the killing of former Pakistan premier Benazir Bhutto on December 27, but he later denied having a hand in the assassination.
He was believed to be suffering from diabetes and hypertension, reported a Pakistan-based TV channel “Dawn News”. Though, the TV report was silent on any confirmation from the TTP.
Islamabad - At least four people were killed and nine injured as a US drone attacked a house in the border area of Pakistan with Afghanistan, news reports said Wednesday.
Quoting Pakistani security officials, GEO TV television reported that a US pilotless drone fired missiles at a house near the town Mir Ali in North Waziristan.
Two other drones were shot at earlier, the report said.
North Waziristan is regarded a haven for Taleban militants and members of the al-Qaeda terrorism network.
Islamabad - Baitullah Mehsud, leader of Pakistan's Taliban militants died from illness, news reports said Wednesday.
Mehsud, believed to be in his 30s, suffered from high blood pressure and kidney disease, the GEO TV television said.
The leader of a united front of smaller Taliban groups called the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, or Pakistan Taliban Movement, Mehsud was blamed for the murder of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in December by Pakistan's former government, a claim he reportedly denied.
Islamabad- The Pakistani army said on Tuesday its troops killed at least seven Islamic militants and injured several others in the troubled Bajaur tribal district that borders Afghanistan.
"Militants' fortified positions and hide outs around the Loi Sam area were today engaged in heavy fire," military spokesman Major Murad Khan told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
Three explosive-laden vehicles were also destroyed by the security forces in Kat Kot area, he added.
