Islamabad, Sept 23: Refuting the media reports quoting Pakistan Prime Minister’s Adviser on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik that senior Pakistani leaders, including the President, the Prime Minister and others, were to attend an Iftar party on Saturday at Hotel Marriott where the devastating blast took place killing 60 persons, the management of the hotel said there was “no such party”.
Islamabad - Unknown gunmen on Monday kidnapped Afghanistan's designated ambassador to Pakistan, Abdul Khaleq Farahi, in the country's North West Frontier Province, police said.
The attackers ambushed the envoy's car in the up-market Hayatabad area of the provincial capital Peshawar.
"The driver was killed and the ambassador was abducted by the gunmen," said an official at Hayatabad police station.
Television footage showed the official vehicle with a diplomatic registration plate CC-01-25, bearing bullet holes and blood splatter.
Islamabad, Sept. 22 : India and Pakistan have reportedly finalised the modalities for facilitating cross-border trade through the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Poonch-Rawalkot routes from next month.
Officials of the two countries finalised the modalities on Monday, including the list of items that would be traded. A final decision on when this trade along these two routes will start, will be taken after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh meets Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari in New York.
Islamabad- Pakistan on Monday claimed Indian border security forces opened fire on the de facto border, called the Line of Control (LoC) in the disputed Himalayan territory of Kashmir on Monday, injuring one young girl.
"India troops resorted to unprovoked firing on the LoC this morning in Rawalakot sector, injuring a girl Ruina (in Pakistan-administered Kashmir)," Pakistan Army spokesman Major Murad Khan told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
He said Pakistani troops responded briefly with small arms' fire. Islamabad later registered a strong protest with India.
Islamabad, Sept 22 : Pakistan’s Information and Broadcasting Ministry has reportedly ordered an inquiry into Saturday night’s gaffe wherein state owned TV channel, the PTV telecast President Asif Ali Zardari speech after the hotel blast as he was still rehearsing.
Zardari’s address to the nation was aimed at sharing the nation’s grief after the tragic blast which destroyed the Marriott Hotel. On the President’s insistence only, it was decided not to telecast it live, but first record it.
